Joshua is a familiar figure in the Singapore drum scene, who has been performing and teaching for more than 6 years.
He started out his career working for Yamaha Music Asia as their Drums Specialist.
While there, he was assigned to be the Drum Tech for many famous artistes.
He was also invited to be one of the judges for Singapore’s Asian Beat Semi-finals.
Since then, Joshua has conducted many successful workshops for organisations like Yamaha Music Asia, Woodgrove Sec Sch, Salem Chapel, Focal Pro Recording Studios, Tambalog…A meeting place, and also in countries like Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam.
As for his formal qualifications, Joshua has been certified with a grade 8 (with distinction) by Trinity Guildhall from the UK.
However, according to him, the testimonials from his students and their parents are his greatest achievements.
Monica Tong graduated with a Piano Teacher’s Diploma (LTCL) from the Trinity College of London. She also obtained a Master of Church Music (MCM) from the Singapore Bible College. She had been actively involved in church music for twenty years and had ten years’ teaching experience in Yamaha Music School. She conducts group lessons and enjoys nurturing children as young as three years old. She is also an effective teacher in individual tutoring. Most of her piano students obtained Distinctions in their ABRSM music examinations. These students also participated in the singapore Music Teachers’ Association (SMTA) Performers’ Festival 2006.
She believes in a holistic teaching approach. Therefore, her students are strongly encouraged to attend group lessons once a week in addition to their individual lessons. The latter adopts an integrated approach to musicianship skills through technical exercises and studies, aural training, sight reading, varied repertoire (classical, jazz, sacred, Disney, etc.), improvisation and music theory. Group lessons involve singing and identifying solfege, enjoying rhythmic movements, playing music theory games, learning music appreciation, knowing the lives of music composers, discovering orchestral instruments, and playing simple percussion instruments (e.g. handbells, angklungs) so that music learning is no chore but fun!
These were the activities in 2007. The students gave two recitals. Some went on a music exchange trip to Chiangmai, Thailand where they presented music in two schools as well as in a church. There were trips to music concerts, ballet concerts (The Nutcracker Ballet and Swan Lake on Ice) and a musical presentation (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang). ‘The Amazing Race’ was a race to unravel musical clues. The children noted the value of friendship and team harmony (pun intended).
In 2007, One of her seven Primary School Choirs was awarded the Bronze Diploma in an International Choral Festival in Pattaya, Thailand. Her school choirs performed in two fund-raising projects for the Kidney Dialysis Foundation and the Lupas Association. They performed in RC Block Parties, Residents’ Fest and Community Centres’ National Day dinners.
In 2008, the Primary School Choirs under her charge will be competing in the bi-annual Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Competition. Trips to the Mozart Roadshow and the Wolfgang Amade Exhibition presented by the National Museum have been planned. A trip to Salzburg, Vienna in May 2008 will also be organised to broaden the students’ horizon, musically and geographically.
Monica is a member of the Singapore Music Teachers’ Association (SMTA) and Choral Directors’ Association of Singapore (CDAS). She is very passionate about nurturing young talents. She attends pedagogy symposiums and teachers’ workshops seeking continually to explore effective and creative ways to enhance her teaching. As has been said: “There is no end to learning”. This applies to students as well as to teachers.

I am a homemaker who enjoys making use of fabric to create craft and embroidery.
The children will be guided to create pictures, collage, appliqué or simple patchworks. They will experience using felt, remnants of fabric, buttons, zips, beads, as well as sequin.
Further, they are taught to sew their creation together by using stitches like running, back, stem and blanket etc., depending on theirs ages.
The younger children ( Age 7 to 8 ) will be taught cross stitches first.
Ultimately my aim is the children can learn some simple stitching and bring back something that they have created themselves, for example a bag or a pencil case.
