Venue: Young Musicians’ Society Auditorium (YMS Auditorium) at 54 Waterloo Street

The Fair is designed for ... ... ...  

(1) Parents who want to know what homeschooling is:

  • Find out from experienced homeschooling parents who will share about the common FAQs;
  • Find out about the different curricula available from parents who will display their wares;

(2) Parents who are already homeschooling:

  • Hear from our guest speakers, Mr. Steve Demme, founder of the Math-U-See programme will speak on how to practically enhance family life. In his second talk, Steve will share his successes and failures of 20+ years training and teaching his 4 sons from young boys to grown men.
  • Hear from Ms Angie Maniam what the Charlotte Mason method is and how to use it effectively.
  • Hear from our Ms Daphne Chua, one of the very few Music Therapists in town, on how to include music in your teaching?
  • Hear from Ms Eileen Nathan on what lapbooking is and how this simple learning tool can effectively increase memory retention for every subject on every level!
  • Hear from MS Debbie Santee on how much is enough when we teach our pre-schoolers.

In this encouraging workshop, Steve relates the positive experiences that he and his wife have experienced raising their four sons. With plenty of humorous illustrations, Steve shares tried and proven suggestions that have enhanced their family life. With God’s help they are convinced there is hope for the family in the 21st century.

Description: God calls us to teach and disciple our children while we are still being discipled ourselves. This unique dynamic was designed by God to develop teacher and student alike. Steve shares his successes and failures of 20+ years training and teaching his 4 sons from young boys to grown men. He also shares insights about the father as the pastor of the home.

Debbie Santee, an early childhood and elementary school educator by
profession and now home-schooling mom of 3 boys will discuss some
questions that parents who are just starting to teach their child at
home might ask…

  • Am I doing enough with my preschooler?
  • Why doesn’t my child sit for very long to “do school”?
  • What are developmentally appropriate activities for children 2-5 years old?
  • When does a child learn to read?
  • What are some practical ideas I can start using to teach my preschool/kindergarten age child this week?

Experienced home-schooling moms and dads may also pick up a few new
ideas to use with their preschool/kindergarten child.

Dear Math-U-See kids,

Mr. Steve Demme will join us this year at our Homeschool Curriculum Fair! He would like to take this opportunity to celebrate your progress in Math-U-See. Please email your name, age & level (see contact details overleaf) before 8th February 2008 & we’ll prepare a personal certificate for him to sign on the day! Don’t forget to bring your camera along!

If you are interested to sell your used curriculum / books, $5 will get you a space. I will provide a picnic blanket/tarp for you to display your wares, or you’re also more than welcome to bring your own portable tables. As with other functions, First-Come, First-Served, and space is limited.

A familiar figure in the Singapore drum scene, performer and teacher for more than 6 years, drum Tech for many famous artistes drum specialist Joshua Agilan will be at the fair to let your kids try his drum set, tell you more about his drum lessons and ….. his passion in drum.
